Thomas Brodie-Sangster

One of my few celebrity crushes. A great actor, musician and an overall charming person.

I've seen a few of his movies before but he really made an impression when he played Jojen Reed in Game of Thrones. (Spoilers ahead)

Jojen was one of the few characters in the show who was around my age. I liked his mysterious and enigmatic character who was always composed and could use magic. I was really bummed when they killed him off and it kinda annoyed me that he was portrayed so weak.

After his death in the show, naturally, I searched for his other movies and saw that it was him who played Newt in The Maze Runner. And will later find out that he's really popular for that one. (Spoilers below)

I've seen The Maze Runner before GoT, but Newt was kind-of a backdrop character. He was somehow unnoticeable. So I rewatched it and then proceeded to the 2nd movie, The Scorch Trials. After that, I read the final installment of the series, The Death Cure.

This is where I absolutely fell in love with Thomas. Or Newt.

If you've read the book, you'll know what lies in page 250.

It's unspeakable and heartbreaking. I couldn't get over it for a long time. I guess I was so shocked that I couldn't even cry.

After that, in order to cope with the grief I made artworks of Newt and Thomas Brodie.

As you can clearly see, I'm smitten with the guy.

I began a marathon of his movies, and found out a very specific thing attached to most of the roles played by him--death. Most, but not all.

I watched Nowhere Boy where he played Paul McCartney. I didn't really like the way he portrayed him. Mostly because they don't look and sound alike, but the movie was great, overall.

He's also the main character in Death of a Superhero, where he plays a very artistic and angsty cancer patient.

I also watched some of his short appearances in Accused S2 ep2, Hideaways and Inspector Lewis--wherein he was either sick or dies.

Hideaways

Seriously, does he always have to play the lovable but weak character?

But kidding aside, there is a certain charm to the roles that he chooses to play in. Most of them are indie films which show a lot of his character as a person and his versatility as an actor.

Orbit Ever After

A good example is The Left Hand Man, also known for its longer version, Phantom Halo. He plays the son of a spoken word artist. They recite poetry for a living and both his father and older brother got involved with some sketchy characters along the way.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster is notable for his raspy and soothing voice, add to that his incredibly attractive British accent. Did you know that he is the voice actor of Ferb from Phineas and Ferb? Yeah, me neither.

He has a reading of an excerpt from "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens in YouTube. He's akin to Benedict Cumberbatch and is good at voice acting. I can listen to his voice all day.

Playing the intellectual and mysterious character also suits him well because in real life, he is quite the introvert and seems like genuinely sweet person. I watched a few of his interviews and most of his co-actors always compliment him for being their "master" or something of the sort, because he has been around since Nanny McPhee and Love Actually and has had a lot of acting experience. Thomas will always just laugh shyly and compliment them back.

Here's a tweet from the author of The Maze Runner series:

I was sincerely surprised to find that there is actually a huge fandom for Thomas already. I wasn't prepared for it. And I'm glad that I didn't go deep into that. I might have, at some point. I even read a couple of watpadd fanfics but that was it hahaha (nervous laugh).

He's grown quite well, played a lot of minor and very interesting roles and is loved by many.

Fun fact: He plays the bass in their family band called, "Winnet". They mostly play classical jazz songs in their gigs, with Thomas' older sister, Ava and his mother singing, and sometimes even dancing.

Need I explain more why I'm fascinated with him? I mean, love him?

I can write a whole lot more but I'll end this with the note that both Newt and Thomas Brodie -for that matter- has helped me cope with some really difficult moments of my life a few years back. So this guy means a lot to me. And I don't fangirl over anyone. If I get asked who my favorite actor is, I will say it's him. That's just how it is.

I'm looking forward to watching some of his shows such as Godless, The Alchemistic Suitcase (an old short film), Orbit Ever After (which I couldn't find online) and of course, The Death Cure. I just really hope it doesn't mess me up. (Again.)
