Nowadays, it's very rare for me to come across a book that is so beautifully crafted I have trouble putting it down. In the same way Erin read her father's book about war, I was completely immersed with "The Lemay Leveller" with the same music on repeat in the background. I simply love the writing style of this author. It's effortlessly compelling, emotional and raw. It's also incredibly brave to share this personal account to the world, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I feel for Erin not just because of the difficult life she had to go through but because from the moment she said: "I left my mother's house for good, never having felt at home with her in the first place; determined that from that point onward I would never again fall under her control." I knew then, that I was going to read a story that mirrors my own.
Her relationship with her sister and mother are so reminiscent of my own life at home. And it is incredible, absolutely incredible, how humans can overcome these things. Unlike her, I have not documented nor told any soul about my circumstances, and I feel that this book came to me at just the right moment.
I'm giving this book the highest esteem, knowing that it's going to be etched in my mind for many years to come, and the inherent strength of Erin would also be a beacon of light for me from today on. I truly and genuinely adore this book. It deserves to be in the bestsellers list along with other great works. She is a creative genius, an inspiration, and her book is a true gem.
